This project explores the different cultural dichotomies of Hong Kong: how it has shaped my upbringing and ways the security law proposed in Beijing threatens to dismantle Hong Kong’s diverse and autonomous identity. Through this hand-bound publication, which includes stories from my family and of my own, I express how Hong Kong has represented freedom and hope for others, and provides a home for my complex identity.

Whilst working at Open Kitchen; a not-for-profit catering company in Manchester who intercept food, with a mission to stamp out food waste whilst helping those suffering from food poverty; I helped design a number of assets across social media, CRM, print & marketing. A notable project was creating an identity for ‘Open Kitchen Wine Club’, with proceeds going to charity, and nibbles made from intercepted ingredients.

I’ve lived in Manchester for almost a decade now. And what initially drew me to the city was it’s liveliness and culture. Throughout my time here i’ve always observed the subtle rhythm that beats through the city. It’s impossible to ignore, theres so much musical history here, whilst always breathing room for new talent. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved with creating artwork for some amazing events. I often find myself inspired by motifs of the night and always look to evoke a sense of camaraderie and movement.

Growing up, I played football and had a huge interest in the sport. My love for it only grew after moving to the UK. After starting art school, I manifested a particular interest in publications, especially ones like ‘Mundial’ that celebrated Football and its impact on history & culture. I spent a summer with them helping with social comms & product shots in lead up to their 5th Birthday and match screening events.

As part of the innovation team at Co-op, it was my responsibility to bring inspiration and ideas to life. This involved feeding food & social media trends to the Co-op own-brand team. I designed a number of presentations and printed resources to help facilitate fresh ideas and new product development. As well as this, I was heavily involved in championing Co-op’s internal networks of ‘RISE’ (promoting diversity and inclusion) & also ‘Co-operating in Crisis’ (An educational and support network surrounding international displacement and conflict)
